Glendora's Famous Moreton Bay Fig (Ficus Macrophylla)

The "Big Tree" was planted in the late 1880's by Mr. Edgar J. Owens, one of Glendora's early residents. The tree, botanical name "Ficus Macrophylla," is commonly called Moreton Bay Fig and is named after the Moreton Bay Region of Australia where the species grows naturally. The tree stands 90 feet in height and it has a branch spread of 110 feet. The trunk measures 30 feet in circumference and the unusual root system covers 1200 square feet of land area.The "Big Tree" was planted in the late 1880's by Mr. Edgar J.
